Located in the Gulf of Poets, a few km from La Spezia, this picturesque village of fishermen attracts thousands of tourists every season of the year.
Through the gate of the village, which has remained intact since 1200, we enter the center of the village.
Here among the tall houses in pastel hue, leaning against each other, the commercial life of the village takes place with souvenir shops, artisan shops, bakeries, bars and the famous Bottega del Fritto where you can buy a delicious cone of fried fish caught by local fishermen.
Founded in 1300 on the remains of an old pagan temple, the Church of St Peter is a large natural stone building, perched on a spur overlooking the sea. The architecture is formed by two buildings: one in a Romanesque style, the other Gothic.
From the terrace above the church there is a wonderful view, in the north the Cinque Terre, in the south Palmaria and in the east on the Golfo dei Poeti (Gulf of Poets).
A panoramic path leads to two cylindrical stone buildings, once used as mills and then later on as watchtowers. From here you can admire the Church of San Pietro from another perspective and the grandeur of Castello Doria, a majestic fortress built by the Republic of Genoa for defence needs.
