Inaugurated in 1867, The Natural History Museum is known across the globe for its 4 million specimens. Its collections of highly scientific value are above all zoological in nature. As one can also find botanical exhibits that showcase minerals and fossils of many kinds.
The House is situated on a two story lot. Where on the ground floor therein lies a workshop in which the father of Columbus was responsible for weaving wool textiles. In 1155 the Genoesen’s feared an attack by Frederick Barbarossa, rallying their defences together. A fortification of walls was erected that engulfed much of the city. Towards the eastern entrance the Porta Soprana, while the Porta dei Vacca was situated near the west!
It houses the first section of the “Strada Nuova” Museums, mainly dedicated to the art collections of the Brignole partly housed in rooms that retain the authenticity of its origins.
Built between 1671 and 1677, the mosaics of the floors and the paintings make it one of the fanciest locales of Genoa.
Built between 1530 and 1540 you can admire an important collection of Genoese, Italian and European paintings. Alongside authentic masterpieces by Italian artists (Caravaggio, Veronese), Flemish (Hans Memling, Gerard David, Jean Provost, Rubens, Van Dyck), Dutch (Steen), French (Vouet, Lancret) and Spanish (Zurbaràn, Murillo), dominates a wide range of Genoese paintings from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century (Cambiaso, Strozzi, Piola, Magnasco).
Built in 1565, it is the highest expression of the wealth of the Genoese aristocracy. In 1597 it was purchased by Giovanni Andrea Doria for his son Carlo, Duke of Tursi. Since the mid-nineteenth century the Palace has been the seat of the town hall of Genoa. In the last rooms of the gallery there is a remarkable exhibition of works of decorative art and the collection of coins, weights and official measures of the ancient Republic of Genoa.
The Documentation Centre for History, Art and the Image of Genoa consists of three sections: History of Art Library, Cartographic and Topographical Collections, Photographic Archive.
It is the largest museum of its kind in the Mediterranean area and also one of the most modern in Italy.
