Galata is the marvelous Museum of the Sea, the biggest of its kind in the Mediterranean sea and the most modern one in Italy.
Nazario Sauro is a diesel-electric (or conventional) submarine of the Italian Navy. First of its generation, the Sauro class series, delivered to the Navy on 12 February 1980.
Nowadays the submarine is a museum, moored in the Porto Antico of Genoa, one of the three submarines exposed in Italy. The others are the Enrico Toti (S 506) in Milan and the Enrico Dandolo (S 513) in Venice.
The Aquarium, located in the sixteenth-century Porto Antico of Genoa, at the moment of its inauguration in 1992 it was the biggest in Europe and second in a world scale.
The itinerary will take about 2 hours and a half to be concluded and includes 39 exhibits of aquatic and land based life. Four of which are in open for the Cetacean Pavilion opened in 2013.
The total area of the facility is 27,000 square meters. The tanks house about 15,000 animals of 400 different species among fish, marine mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates in environments that reproduce the original ones of the single species with educational purposes.
